The Country Day School is embracing the transformative potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) to enhance education while maintaining a steadfast commitment to responsible use and technology with balance. As GenAI continues to reshape the educational landscape, CDS is taking proactive steps to ensure its integration benefits for both students and educators in meaningful and ethical ways.
Recognizing the importance of keeping pace with this technological shift, a faculty task force first convened in May 2023. This group began by exploring the opportunities GenAI offers, focusing on its application in age-appropriate and stage-specific contexts. Their efforts included evaluating AI tools such as software applications and AI tutors, as well as drafting foundational documents: an Executive Plan, Guidelines for Responsible Use, and an Action Plan.
Last Friday, this task force presented these documents to a 12-member Faculty AI Committee during a strategic planning session. The group identified key needs for both faculty and students, laying the groundwork for a strategic approach to GenAI integration for the remainder of the school year and beyond.
In the coming months, we will share more details about our guidelines and plans for incorporating GenAI into the curriculum. These efforts reflect the school’s commitment to creating a more enriching, personalized, and future-ready educational experience for all JK-12 students, while maintaining our commitment to providing an Education with Balance.
